Two of the main features of this region of Minnesota are the BWCA and Lake Superior.  This wiki explores Lake Superior.

Lake Superior is a big, beautiful lake.

It reminds one of the ocean because it seems endless.

But it isn't like the oceans.

It is freshwater, it isn't teeming with sealife and it doesn't have tides.

It is a completely unique landform.

Why is it important to learn about Lake Superior?

In the Minnesota Academic Standards in Social Studies, it states that geography brings together the physical and human dimensions of our world.  The MN Standards also state that successful contributors of a democratic society have an understanding of geography which means they understand the spacial context of people, places and environments on Earth.  The study of Lake Superior falls into the category of geography and therefore, it is important to learn about.
